Early Work:
In 1981, Konstantin moved from Leningrad to Nizhnevartovsk with his family and stayed there for 4 years. After returning to Leningrad, in 1985 he completed his secondary education and joined a technical college. After studying there for 3 years he realised his dreams were different.
He began working as street musician in Leningrad, and also got a part time job as set technician at the Theatre studio of Subbota. This where he discovered his passion for acting! He joined the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinema to follow his true calling and graduated in 1995.
Debut and First Works:
Khabensky’s first performance for the first time at the Subbota theatre itself, where he performed the Waiting for Godott by Samuel Beckett for his final exam. His first ever role in cinema was that of a pedestrian in the 1994 comedy “To whom will God send”. After graduating in 1995, he worked in a lot of different projects, including Dmitry Meskhiev directed Women’s Property, for which he won the Best Actor Award at the at the Gatchina Literature and Cinema Film Festival.
He was also a part of the Moscow Art Theatre stage cast since 2003 and landed the lead role in in Alexander Vampilov’s Duck Hunting (Zilov), Mikhail Bulgakov’s The White Guard (Alexey Turbin) and Hamlet (Claudius).
Breakthrough Roles and Rise to Fame:
Khabensky’s breakthrough was with his role in the blockbuster hit duology, Night Watch (2004) and Day Watch (2005), directed by Timur Bekmambetov. His excellent potrayal as magician Anton Gorodetsky, made him famous all around the world. After this, Khabensky continued to climb up the ladder of success, working as an actor, director as well as screenwriter, with a total of 25 nominations and 23 awards under his wing!
