The startup journey of IIT-B alumni is no less than an inspiration to thousands of young Indians who have that zest of making their print in the startups.
Ravish Naresh Early Life & Education
Ravish Naresh was born on 11 February 1990 in Bengaluru and his age is 31 years old (as in 2021).
He has completed his primary & secondary education in Bengaluru and later came to Mumbai for pursuing a B.Tech (Bachelors in Technology) from IIT-B (Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay.) He cleared the Entrance JEE MAIN with flying colours and got admission to his dream institute.
He was inclined towards startups and wanted to build his own business by creating a strong foundation. He used to come up with creative ideas along with his friends and together they used to work on their yearly semester projects. As a team, they have successfully nailed the projects during their IIT days.
Exambaba.com, Recharge123.com, Homeworkmafia, IITB Freedom.com and Corrupt net.org are some of the projects that he worked on. Also, he has done summer internships at CitiBank India and Deloitte, tentatively during 2007-2008. After acquiring a degree in B.tech, he was sure about making a niche in the startups.
He started his research and curated a plan to come up with Housing.com in 2012, a real estate portal that allows customers to search for housing based on geography, number of rooms and various other filters. “At Housing, we did a lot of good things. We did a lot of bad things as well,” he told TechCircle. “We had raised too much capital too early. We scaled our operations before chasing our business model and became too dependent on capital and our investors. We were all just 23-year-old kids at the time.” T
he company’s legal name is Locon Solutions Pvt Ltd and its headquarter is in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The startup was founded along with Abhishek Anand and Advitiya Sharma.
The startup was founded with the aim to ease the search for a house in this hectic lifestyle. The business took almost 8 years to gain momentum in profits. As they digitised their business, looking at the current internet phase, they endorsed their company through known faces and made it a point to reach out to as many people as possible through strategic marketing.
Currently, the company features over 5 lakh+ properties, has 6000 listed brokers and serves 40 cities in India including Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Delhi. He says, “The aim is to penetrate all areas. We started operations just a few days back and the response has been good. Because all the listings on our site are fresh, the size of the inventory that we maintain is dependent on how quickly the houses get occupants also. That is something we will know in the coming months as well.
KhataBook was started in 2016 when Ravish, who is also co-founder of the real estate search portal Housing.com and Kyte, came across developer Vaibhav Kalpe’s business accounting app. Vaibhav had built the app after seeing his father face challenges in recording his electrical shop’s receivables.
Naresh hired Vaibhav and his team, and launched KhataBook, aiming to become the first business accounting software that India’s merchants used. In 2017, AI-powered SMS Inbox Kyte was co-founded by Ravish but within the span of one year, the company was sold off as the business was procuring loss. Housing.com and Khatabook are the two companies that Ravish is operating full-time.
With more than eight million active SMB users and 500+ types of businesses using the app, Co-founder and CEO of Bengaluru-based KhataBook Ravish Naresh claim KhataBook saw transactions worth $100 billion last year. While official valuation numbers have not been disclosed, media reports suggest that Khatabook may have been valued anywhere between $275-$300 Million.
According to Tech Portal, the digital book-keeping and ledger platform have primarily raised the money from Eduardo Saverin’s B Capital Group. This takes the total funding raised by the two-year-old firm to $87 million. The app has 9.5 lac+ daily transacting merchants, 150 Mn+ customers added by merchants in 2020 and around 95% of Indian districts have Khatabook merchants.
Ravish’s Net Worth is not disclosed officially but looking at his business prospects and demand in the market, the net worth must be not less than 10 Million. He has invested in Seed Round- Let’s Dive from December 2020 worth $1.7 Million.
